MY THOUGHTS
Review of MissTaken
Identity by Kimberley Woodhouse
(from The
MissAdventure Brides Collection)
MissTaken Identity takes place over 11 days in Texas of 1883, and even the creative title has meaning. What an unlikely pair these two seemed on the surface – Jim, a Texas Ranger, and Abigail (aka Chuck), a young woman suspected of criminal activities – yet there is much to admire in both. Abigail might be a little headstrong and her methods somewhat questionable, but her reason can’t be faulted, for what woman wouldn’t want to be loved for herself rather than the land she owned? And Jim is doing some soul searching himself, realizing that his Ranger job doesn’t afford him the family opportunities he would like.
With good character depth, suspense, and a glimpse at the strife between some of the sheepherders and cattle ranchers, Woodhouse elevates this story above the average western romance. I loved the gentle humor at times, and the way Jim and Abigail rely on their faith in God to guide them through life’s troubles. An epilogue that takes place six months later brings this sweet story to a very satisfying conclusion, so that nothing feels rushed.
Recommended.
