Author Spotlight + GIVEAWAY: Meg Moseley

A Stillness of Chimes
By Meg Moseley

It is an honor to welcome Meg Moseley back to The Power of Words! Meg lives in my home state of Georgia and writes southern fiction of the highest quality, but the appeal of her writing transcends that specific genre. Meg is a wordsmith - and her latest book, A Stillness of Chimes, has a hauntingly beautiful quality.

When I compiled my 2014 Best of the Best list, I had no hesitation in placing A Stillness of Chimes on it (click on title for my review). You can also click here to see my interview with Meg last year. One of you will receive a copy of this book from Meg, details at the end of this post.

Now enjoy as Meg shares about A Stillness of Chimes and what it means to her . . .

Meg:  A Stillness of Chimes tells the story of a young woman who’s shocked to learn that the beloved father she’d thought dead might have faked his death and slipped away to the Blue Ridge Mountains near her childhood home. Her quest to learn her father’s fate reveals almost more truth than she can handle.

I think the heart of this story is that even imperfect and damaged people can demonstrate the kind of love that asks us to lay down our lives for our friends. That “greater love” won’t necessarily look heroic, but real heroes don’t worry about appearances.

In writing A Stillness of Chimes, I discovered my voice as a writer, as well as some themes that will always be important to me. I’m not one of those writers who can churn out a book a year, so my current focus is to find a new story that will be worth pouring my heart and soul into, for as long as it takes.

Carole:  Meg, I'm glad that you don't try to turn out a book each year, for surely that pressure affects an author's quality of writing. I consider you to be a gem in the Christian fiction market and am eager to see the next story that God places on your heart. Thank you so much for being here, Meg.

  3. Oh, I love Meg's writing, too! She crafts stories the way a chef creates a wonderful dessert--you don't see the hard work, you just enjoy the results! :-)

And I somehow missed getting a STILLNESS OF CHIMES when it released. So pick me, please! (Contact me at cathychall at gmail dot com when I win. ;-)

  6. Unfortunately I haven't read any of your books, although being from the South, I must surely remedy that. The blurb regarding A Stillness Of Chimes makes me think about not just my own problems with secrets within my family, but with others as well. We have all been affected, not just by our own family, but others as well. lwhumbertatgmaildotcom

  7. It's funny that you mentioned not being able to put out a book a year. Some friends and I were just discussing this subject. We agreed that when an author is churning out books rapidly, they tend to show in their writing.
I'm happy to know that you take your writing seriously and follow God's prompting.

Thanks for the chance to win a copy of A Stillness of Chimes,

    1. Exactly, Cindi! I can think of one very popular author that I won't name, whose earlier books I greatly enjoyed, but don't even read her stories now. The bottom line is obviously sales, but it definitely affects an author's writing quality. Always good to see you here, Cindi.

  8. Meg, I would like to know if you had an input in the cover ~ interesting for the stain from crushed berries; wondering how it weaves into the story. Glad we are redeemed!

    1. Kay, thank you so much for your sweet comments! Reading is so subjective that I often hate to make recommendations. All I can do is tell about books that touch me in some way. If you get a chance, do try to read Meg's first book also, When Sparrows Fall. I used to take CBD's fiction catalog and check out the books on their "new & recommended" page, which is how I first discovered Meg.

    2. I like to browse through the CBD fiction catalog, also, but haven't done that for a while. I will check out When Sparrows Fall. Thanks!

  12. "A Stillness of Chimes" would be an interesting read.....why would a father fake his death & start over somewhere new? Makes for a bit of mystery & I like that in a story :-) I'd be constantly looking for clues in the between-the-lines kind of way! Thank you for a chance to win a copy & for telling us a bit about the book!

  13. I've read Meg's previous books and really enjoyed them. Though I'm not southern, I do like reading southern fiction. I'm impressed that Meg takes the time to produce a quality book, no matter how long that may take. There seems to be a lot of pressure on many authors to crank out as many books as possible, as quickly as possible. I suspect some of that pressure is economic, but I wonder if possibly we readers are part of the problem, wanting as many books as possible by favorite authors.
Thanks for the chance to win A Stillness of Chimes.

    1. You make some good points, Pam. We probably contribute to the pressure with our wants, then complain when the writing quality slips. Just can't have it both ways, can we? As for southern fiction, I can't explain why, but there's just something special about it to me. So glad you enjoy Meg's books, Pam!

  16. Now that cover really draws me in. It's not the typical cover for this type of book. Not that I am complaining as there are many beautiful covers on Christian books. I enjoy very much reading Southern fiction and since she is a new to me author I'd love to give her books a try. This story sounds very intriguing Carol Jarvis. Great to visit with you again today !

I too am glad that Meg doesn't try to churn out a book or two a year, so many authors I started out loving seem to have gone that route and their work isn't quite the same.

Meg, it looks like A Stillness of Chimes is going on my TBR even if I don't win. Carol found me over at Transformational Fiction Fans on Facebook and I would agree with her, this does fit that mission; to point to Christ through difficult topics!
