My Thoughts

There’s something special about Home for Christmas by Catherine Lanigan, making it an instant connection for me. Maybe I’m guilty of romanticizing small-town stories and coming home to family, but I never seem to tire of them. Adam and Joy’s story is one of reconnecting and building on a past foundation, as well as working to save a beloved family business belonging to Joy’s grandfather. I’m new to the Indian Lake series and suspect a few secondary characters have had their stories told previously, but that makes the series even more charming – and this story easily stands alone.

Home for Christmas is strong in all the areas that I care most about – the Indian Lake setting, family home and poinsettia greenhouse, growing relationship between Adam and Joy, and the caring townspeople. What could be more perfect for the Christmas season than growing poinsettias? Adam and Joy have a past of broken relationships and personal grief. Adam’s son, a precocious budding genius, steals the show, as well as hearts. And then there’s one of my favorite fictional characters, the fascinating Mrs. Beabots.

Home for Christmas is a touching story of forgiveness and second chances – on a personal level between Adam and Joy, and also as the community comes together in support and help. Home for Christmas would make a moving Hallmark movie and the company is missing a great opportunity if they don’t snatch this one up. But the book is even better than a potential movie because of all the richness and depth that a movie can’t convey.

Recommended.
